5 Simple Ways to Make Your Valentine’s Day Special

5 Simple Ways to Make Your Valentine’s Day Special

We all experience and receive love in different ways from many different kinds of people in our lives. What a beautiful and sometimes painful reality.

Valentine’s Day has a tendency to increase people’s experiences of pain and/or beauty. I want to acknowledge that this day means many different things for many different people in many different walks of life.

How can this day become meaningful and special no matter what your relationship status is? I’ve listed 5 easy things that anyone can do to make this day special.

1. Write a card to a friend or someone influential in your life thanking them

This can be your closest friend, a mentor, a family member, or maybe the cashier at a coffee shop that always smiles at you when you come up to the counter. Taking the time to tell someone thank you not only helps you reflect on ways your life has been positively impacted, but it also sends that person a little bit of encouragement.

2. Eat a meal or drink coffee with someone

Again, this person could be anyone. Enjoying food together is so good for us. It’s actually suggested that it increases lifespan!

3. Wake up early to watch the sunrise

Okay, this one might seem weird and not connected to Valentine’s Day at all. If you were thinking that, you’re kind of right. The point of this one is to remind yourself of the bigger picture. To take time at the very beginning of your day to align yourself to the truth of who you are and what you believe in.

4. Make something creative to remember this day

This one can be done by yourself, with another person, or a group of people. Paint a picture, make candles, or bake a cake. Learn how to weave a small basket out of pine needles or turn egg cartons into paper mache. There are literally thousands of ideas out there!

5. Plant a seed in dirt

The idea behind this one is to actively do something to symbolize growth. I guess this is more than just symbolizing because it actually is growing, but you get my point. By planting something that has potential to grow, you are participating in something that is bigger than yourself. Believe it or not, this is really good for you!

Valentine’s Day doesn’t just have to be about romance or self-care. It has potential to be much more than that. I want to make it a day to reflect on loving others and being thankful that we get to participate in this world in small, but meaningful ways. I hope Valentine’s Day is special for you this year!
